Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce Hosts Fairfax County’s Bravest at 47th Annual Valor Awards
CHANTILLY, VA – April 7, 2025 – The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted the 47th Annual Fairfax County Valor Awards yesterday at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles, honoring the extraordinary heroism and dedication of Fairfax County's first responders. Since 1979, this prestigious event has recognized members of the Department of Public Safety Communications, Town of Herndon Police Department, Fairfax County Police Department, Fire & Rescue Department, Office of the Sheriff and other public safety agencies for exceeding the call of duty with their lifesaving acts.
"The Valor Awards are a testament to the courage and selflessness displayed by our first responders every day," said Charles Kapur, President & CEO of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce. "We are honored to bring together the community to recognize these heroes who put their lives on the line to keep us safe."
Joseph Olmo, reporter for NBC4 Washington, served as emcee and led an event which presented over 200 Valor Awards, including 39 Medals of Valor. As a reporter on News4TODAY who regularly reports from the frontlines of emergency situations, Joseph was proud to serve as Master of Ceremony. “These men and women face danger head-on to keep us safe,” Olmo said. “It’s a privilege to help shine a spotlight on their extraordinary stories.”
The event drew a crowd of over 475 attendees, including elected officials, community leaders and members of the business community, all coming together to show their appreciation. Distinguished guests included members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Virginia General Assembly, and U.S. Congress, underscoring the widespread respect for the county's public safety personnel. A representative from the Embassy of France also attended alongside an officer of the French Police who traveled to be honored with a Medal of Valor at the 2025 Valor Ceremony.
A special Healthcare Spotlight Tribute was led by Chairman Jeffrey McKay of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for the role they serve working with our first responder community. We appreciate and acknowledge the critical partnership between the county’s public safety agencies and its leading healthcare institutions.
This year's event was made possible through the generous support of local businesses and organizations, reflecting the strong partnership between the business community and public safety agencies. Thank you to every single sponsor for their incredible support of our first responder community.
Awards were presented in several categories, including the Gold Medal of Valor, Silver Medal of Valor, Bronze Medal of Valor, Certificate of Valor, and Lifesaving Award, each recognizing varying degrees of heroism and service.
