Since 1979, members of our Fairfax County Police Department, Fire & Rescue Department, Department of Public Safety Communications, the Fairfax County Office of the Sheriff, the Herndon Police Department, and the Vienna Police Department have come together to honor the extraordinary bravery, professionalism and selflessness of Fairfax County's public safety heroes.
This annual luncheon awards ceremony recognizes individuals who exceeded the call of duty through acts of courage and service. Honorees are presented with the Lifesaving Award, Certificate of Valor, or the Bronze, Silver or Gold Medal of Honor — each distinction representing moments of heroism that protect lives and strengthen our community.
Together, we continue a longstanding tradition of honoring courageous individuals who rarely seek recognition, yet forever change lives through their service.
Joseph Olmo is a reporter for NBC Washington. Every morning, on News4 TODAY, he helps viewers start their day with headlines from across the DMV. Often, Olmo reports from the same scenes our heroic first responders show up to support. Every day, he sees the bravery and selflessness it takes from the public safety professionals to confront very complex & dangerous situations. He's honored to be part of the Fairfax County Valor Awards as we highlight those in our community who always answer the call when help is needed.
