RCO’s annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. returns to RCC in 2025.
This year’s tribute concert features Wood Notes (William Grant Still), Maple Leaf Rag (Scott Joplin), Duke Ellington! A Medley for Orchestra, along with guest performances by:
– Dr. Gilbert Pryor and the New World Order Horns – Dr. Pryor and his ensemble bring a rich, soulful sound that is sure to stir your spirit. This year’s performance will feature RCO’s premiere of Dr. Pryor’s “Motown Mania,” a dynamic medley of the greatest hits from Detroit’s iconic Motown era, and “I Wish I Knew How to Be Free”.
– Javier Arrey – A baritone who has appeared in the Metropolitan Opera, Javier Arrey will captivate you with his powerful voice, evoking emotion through every note in his performance of spirituals, honoring Dr. King’s legacy through this deeply moving genre.
– Bev Cosham – celebrated Reston song stylist, Bev Cosham, will bring her heartfelt cabaret style, adding to the event’s diverse performances.
– Students from Al Fatih Academy – These young performers will recite Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech, bringing a sense of hope and unity to the stage.
Arrive at 3:40 PM and enjoy a pre-concert aperitif performance by the NWO Horns. Stop by the PaperPie booth to explore and purchase books that delve into Dr. King’s life and the powerful messages he shared. After the concert, join us for a post-performance reception, complete with snacks and lively conversations.
